I often go on retreats with mixed feelings.
Part of me longs for them and looks forward to what the Lord might say or do.
The other more activist side of my personality struggles with retreat because that is exactly what we do- retreat. Pause. Slow down. Step off the treadmill, if only for a day or two
I know I need one when God starts speaking to me in the shower- Max Lucado says that if he's talking to you there it's because it's the only place you stop long enough for him to talk to you!
So I went anticipating God to challenge me- I just wasn't expecting it to be through a seventy four year old nun.
So when I met Sister Bridget at the retreat center last week I should not have been in the least bit surprised.
She is an amazing lady with an inspiring story. She radiates God's love and has a fantastic sense of humor.
And God used this sweet, Godly nun to hi-jack me.
You see, sister Bridget has been serving people at the Convent of Mary at the Cross for 53 years.
Most people think in terms of a career, of staying places for a number of years, but I can only speak for myself when I say that the thought of staying somewhere, anywhere for 10 years seems like a long time.
And so I was hi-jacked by a nun, and God, of course. Challenged to remember that although I may plan my course, it is the Lord who directs my steps. It's not about career, it's about calling. And we must only do what we see the Father doing. That faithfulness is about exactly that, being full of faith as well as being faithful.
I hope you get a chance to meet her sometime.
